A girl and her violin

I believe everybody needs a creative outlet…For Grace one of her outlets is her violin and piano.  She can play and it is like she is in a world of her own.  It doesn’t matter how chaotic it is in the house, she will just play away.  Everybody needs that.  Something to do that makes all their worries melt away.  For me, I guess it is doing funny things with photography like putting my daughter in a bottle.  I do feel happier after working on fun whimsical pieces like this one.

FYI, I got the template from Sleeping Willow.  If you are a photoshop geek like me, you will love her templates.

In the Kitchen

I am feeling really good about our new dinner planning. If you don’t’ know what I am talking about you can read this post.   We are on our third week and still going strong.  Last week Gracie chose to make Chicken Alfredo.  We decided to make some focaccia bread to go with it.  Yum!  And who knew making bread could be so fun.  I mean, you get to poke it with your fingers?  Fun!  We dipped our bread in oil and balsamic vinegar.  By coincidence the vinegar ended up making a smiley face.  On a different day the boys teamed up to make cheeseburgers with homemade french fries.  There is something so endearing about this photo of the boys peeling potatoes.

I love how Max was concentrating so hard while peeling.
Here is a list of what we ate last week.  Perhaps it will spark some ideas for you.

Sunday:  The boys made cheeseburger, french fries, salad and fruit

Monday:  Holiday

Tuesday:  Grace made Chicken Alfredo with mushroom sautéed in butter and Thyme served with Caesar Salad and Focaccia Bread

Wednesday:  Ellie and Claire made Breakfast Burritos.  (Seems to be a favorite around here)

Thursday:  Piper chose panini’s which means grilled cheese for her but others got a little more creative.

Hi! Would you mind sharing your focaccia recipe? It looks so good!!!!! :)

Creating a Photo Pennant Banner – Photos Printed on Cloth

This Photo Pennant Banner  happens to be a Valentine’s Decoration.  But really, you could create one for any occasion.

First, I took quick pictures of each of my kids.  I used our Chalkboard Wall as the back drop and had Piper draw hearts all over it.  Each picture took under 2 minutes to get.

Second, I printed them up on this printable cloth.  Yes, I could print the picture straight onto this cloth with my own printer.  I found it at Joann’s.  It is by Blumenthal Craft. I have to admit.  I first tried to get the photos on a canvas cloth by using Modge Podge photo transfer.  It was an epic fail.  I am sure it was user error.  Perhaps, you would have better luck with it.  But I did find this product to be amazing.

I then lined all of the pictures printed on the cloth up.  There is a paper backing that peels off easily.  You could actually leave  the paper on if you were using it for a pennant and wanted the photos to be a bit stiffer.  But remember you could easily peel the paper off and you have a picture printed on actual cloth that you could sew with.

Next I used pinking shears to cut into desired shape.I then used a cute red zig zag trim to hold it all together.  I simply hot glued the pennants onto the ribbon.  And voila!  a cute cloth pennant banner to hang on my mantle.

Heart-Attacking

This year we tried something new.  We heart attacked each others doors.  Usually, what we do is hang pottery barn kids mailboxes on the backs of our kitchen chairs.  We then leave each other notes to find later.  But last year, we were just too inconsistent.  So this year we are changing it up.  Last Monday night we all gathered around the kitchen table and cut out hearts.  Each person got 7 hearts, one for each of the other members of our family.  We then wrote what we love about each person and then taped the heart on the door of whom you wrote about.  I like this tradition a lot!  I love that the kids see these nice messages about themselves (and their sibling roommate) as they enter their bedrooms. We even got some on our door.  My oldest son cannot pose for a picture without doing a goofy face.  Apparently, it is impossible for him.  Funny boy. It was a lovely night.  We plan to add to our hearts every Monday night until Valentines Day.
